"We don't know anything definitive right now," Ausmus said. "Chances are it's going to be more than one day, but we're hoping best-case scenario that it's similar to what happened to him previously, and that in four or five days he'll be ready to play again and we can avoid a DL stint."
The rookie shortstop injured his knee during his first game in the Majors this season, but missed just two games.
On Monday, Suarez slid into second base safely, beating the throw from Yankees catcher Brian McCann, but Ausmus was quickly joined by a trainer on the field, and Suarez was lifted from the game and replaced by Andrew Romine.
Romine, who will fill in during Suarez's absence, would score on a single by Ian Kinsler and stayed in the game at shortstop in a 2-1 Detroit loss.
