For Porcello (#PickRick), who has quietly been an active supporter of charitable causes, it's a way to make an impact off the field with his Final Vote candidacy, no matter the end result. Considering he turned his old jersey number into a charitable effort for Hurricane Sandy relief two years ago -- getting a donation from Torii Hunter in exchange for No. 48 -- it's no surprise.
It's also a way for Porcello to show his gratitude for the support he has received, not just from the Tigers, but nationwide.
"I'm not used to that kind of attention. I'm definitely flattered by it for sure," Porcello said Wednesday. "It's pretty cool to see people that are supporting you. On a completely personal level, that's definitely very nice. I'm very thankful.
"It's been a new experience for me in my career, and it's been something -- whether I win it or not -- that I'll never forget. It's been a pretty cool couple of days."
Porcello has sat in third place in the voting all week, trailing White Sox lefty Chris Sale and Angels hurler Garrett Richards.
