DETROIT -- With one out in the top of the ninth inning of Saturday night's game, and the Red Sox trailing by three, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus challenged a call on the field that Xander Bogaerts safely stole third base.

Video replay confirmed the ruling after a one-minute, 22-second review.

Detroit third baseman Nick Castellanos shifted David Ortiz to the right side of the infield, leaving his base completely unmanned. Bogaerts saw it as an opportunity to catch the Tigers snoozing, and he took off from second.

Detroit closer Joe Nathan sprinted over from the mound and applied the tag on Bogaerts. But the review determined that Bogaerts reached the bag ahead of the tag.

Bogaerts scored when Ortiz grounded out to second. The next two batters both singled, but Stephen Drew flied out to center to end the game.
