MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire initiated a challenge in the ninth inning of the Twins' 2-1 win over the Tigers on Friday night, as he asked the umpires to use replay to determine whether Brian Dozier was out at second base on a stolen base attempt.
Dozier attempted to steal second with right-hander Evan Reed on the mound for the Tigers and one out in the ninth. Dozier was ruled out at second base by umpire Clint Fagan, but Gardenhire asked for a review and the call on the field was confirmed. Shortstop Andrew Romine tagged Dozier before he was able to touch second base.
It was the fifth time the Twins challenged a play this year, and the third time the call was not overturned.
