DETROIT - Delaware North Companies Sportservice, the food and retail provider for the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park, is seeking additional non-profit organizations to participate in its fundraising program during the 2014 baseball season.
Sportservice is actively recruiting civic organizations, high-school boosters, churches and other non-profit groups to operate concessions at the stadium to raise funds for their respective organizations.
"Groups in metro Detroit might be unaware that they have the opportunity to participate, even if they cannot begin in time for Opening Day," said Robert Thormeier, General Manager for Sportservice at Comerica Park. "With attendance for the Tigers surpassing 3 million in 2013, we need to recruit non-profit organizations now and throughout the upcoming season."
Groups are required to cover at least 10 home games during the season.
About 50 different non-profit groups raised a total of more than $1 million during the 2013 season and playoff run, Thormeier said. The number of volunteers, type of concessions, and stadium attendance all affect the amount of money that a group can raise, he added.
"The program is an effective and attractive way for organizations to raise money without having to risk investing funds up front," Thormeier said. "They can also raise a lot more than with most traditional fund-raising opportunities."
