LAKELAND, Fla. -- From the moment Jim Leyland said Monday that Rick Porcello as a closer was not necessarily a "wild thought," one figured the Tigers manager would clarify his remarks to slow the speculation. That clarification came Wednesday.
"I would say that that would be highly unlikely," Leyland said Wednesday morning. "I read the stories this morning. I said it's not some far-out idea that somebody brought that up. I don't think it's a far-out idea. What I'm saying is I think it's probably highly unlikely."
In other words, don't expect Porcello to be shifted to the bullpen anytime soon.
