Bonderman's surgery successful

MINNEAPOLIS -- Tigers starter Jeremy Bonderman underwent successful surgery on Monday to correct thoracic outlet compression syndrome, which has had him on the disabled list since June 7.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Greg Pearl in Dallas, Texas. It included a first rib resection and venous bypass.

Thoracic outlet syndrome is a pinching of the vein responsible for returning blood from the arm to the heart.

Although the timetable for Bonderman's recovery was not immediately known, Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand had previously said that if Bonderman required an operation, he would likely miss the remainder of the season.

Bonderman is 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA in 12 starts this season.
