Peterson shines against Scorpions

Adam Peterson has had an up-and-down Arizona Fall League season thus far. After taking the loss Opening Day, Peterson tossed five scoreless innings over three relief appearances before allowing four runs in one inning Tuesday against the Surprise Scorpions.

Peterson and seven other Tigers prospects are continuing their 2005 campaigns with the Mesa Solar Sox. Here's how they fared over the AFL's 32-game season's past week:

OF David Espinosa -- The 23-year-old Venezuelan collected two hits in eight at-bats this week, including his first homer of the season Tuesday. Espinosa's average stands at .370 (10-for-27).

SS Don Kelly -- Kelly, a Pittsburgh native, went 2-for-9 on the week with a stolen base and a run scored to lower his average to .281 (9-for-32). He has yet to collect an extra-base hit.

3B Kody Kirkland -- Kirkland went 1-for-5 against the Saguaros on Friday, but his hit was a big one -- an RBI triple in the fourth inning that gave the Solar Sox the lead for good.

RHP Adam Peterson -- The 27-year-old righty tossed two scoreless innings against Peoria on Friday before struggling against Mesa on Tuesday, allowing four runs on five hits over one inning to raise his ERA to 7.36.

RHP Humberto Sanchez -- The Solar Sox's Sanchez gave up a single run in five innings of work in a no-decision Thursday against the Javelinas. The 22-year-old righty fanned five and walked one as his ERA dropped to 2.77.

RHP Mark Woodyard -- Woodyard finally made his 2005 AFL debut Saturday against Grand Canyon, and it was not a memorable one. The Alabama native allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in just one inning. His second outing, though, wasn't as memorable as he gave up six runs -- only one earned -- in 1 1/3 inning of work against the Javelinas and suffered the loss.
